Run this in order, starting at least 45 minutes before doors open. Each step is checked here because something specific went wrong once when it was skipped — this list is written from real Sunday mornings, not a generic template.
Power & systems (45 min out)
- Power on the board, amps, and switcher — in that order, amps last to avoid a pop through the speakers.
- Open ProPresenter, confirm today's playlist is loaded and displays are mapped correctly.
- Open OBS, confirm scenes are loading correct camera sources, and do a private test stream if it's not a routine Sunday.
Sound (30 min out)
- Fresh, matched batteries in every wireless mic and pack going out today.
- Mic check every handheld and lav at actual speaking/singing volume, not a whisper test.
- Confirm monitor mixes with whoever's on stage — ask, don't assume last week's mix is right.
Lighting & cameras (20 min out)
- Cycle through today's lighting scenes/cues once, watching for any dark fixtures.
- Confirm each camera's framing and focus with people actually standing where they'll be during service.
Final pass (10 min out)
- Backup slide/system ready and known to whoever's running media.
- Confirm comms (headsets/intercom) are working between booth and stage manager.
- Phone on silent, water bottle filled — you won't get a break once the service starts.
New to the booth?
It's normal for this to take longer than 45 minutes your first few weeks. Get here earlier rather than rushing through steps.
